You may recall that I am writing a series of posts dedicated to things I like.  This is the second post in that series.

Thing I Like #2: Proper Computers

Yes, I'm doing a Mac one.  Did you really expect otherwise?  So, I use a white MacBook which, a year and a half ago, was the top-of-the-line MacBook.  It is now a grandfather, and no longer top-of-the-line, but in spite of its age, my computer is still trucking along like a champ.  In addition to its advanced years, it is also running a newer version of the operating system than it was designed for.  I purchased it running Tiger, and have since upgraded to Leopard.   How many XP laptops are running Vista now?  *politically incorrect joke removed*

If you've been reading this post, you know that my first reason to have a Mac is that they last.  You have a good computer for much longer if you buy an Apple, than you do if you buy a PC - and when you choose to buy a new one, you can actually sell the used one for more than the $20 you can sell a used PC for.  It's a lasting value.

The second reason is the experience.  I told you I'd be talking about that a lot right?  When you use OSX you use OSX.  When you use XP/Vista you fight XP/Vista.  Those sentences may have sounded similar, but let me show them again, this time with the key words highlighted.

When you use OSX you use OSX.
When you use XP/Vista you fight XP/Vista.

Understand?  Things happen naturally.  Look and feel are important (anybody catch that reference?).  Browsing through open windows is a treat, the file system is clean and organized, applications are packaged in one spot (instead of throwing little clot-like files all around the system), and all of this is packaged into a great little box.

Out of the box is important.  OSX comes packaged with most of the little programs windows users need to find and download (also installing about 8 viruses in the process).  Why put in the work when it could work out of the box?  You turn it on and it works.

Although this is something I am very passionate about, I don't feel the need to tell you every reason you should use a Mac.  I have given you three (3) reasons, and you know the rest.

I will leave you with a final thought on this topic:

People who switch to apple computers don't switch back.  What does that say?

It says they fear change, and prefer a simpler way of life. Like the simpletons they are.

I prefer to fight for what I want anyways. It's like finding a dead carcass and eating it versus strangling a tiger to death. Sure, the carcass is easier, and you need not fear you'll find yourself scarred afterwords, but is it really better?

Plus, if you're any sort of decent computer user, the ability to trade in your computer should be forfeit, either being redundant due to manual, tricked-out upgrades, or impossible for the damage it has received though months to years of good, rough usage.

No to mention, one button just should not be enough.

You can call me Mr. X

Or Cary, whetever floats that big'ol boat of yours
